Privacy & Cookies Policy

Last updated: September 7, 2025

Cancunity (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent travel guide focused on Cancun, Mexico.
This Privacy & Cookies Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have.
We operate a small content/affiliate website and do not run a large user account system.

Regulatory note: We aim to handle personal data in line with applicable privacy laws (e.g., GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, CASL) to the extent they apply to you. This notice is informational and does not claim certification under any regime.

Information We Collect

  • Contact details you send us — e.g., name, email, and message content when you use our contact form or email us.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed, and referral URLs (via standard server logs/analytics).
  • Cookies & similar tech — see Cookies section below.
  • Affiliate link interactions — when you click certain outbound links, partners may track that a visit came from Cancunity to attribute a booking or sale. We don’t receive your payment card details from partners.
  • User-generated content (optional) — if you send photos, comments, or feedback, we’ll process what you provide.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of data.

Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use essential cookies (site performance/security) and limited analytics/affiliate cookies to understand site usage and attribute referrals. You can control cookies in your browser settings and, where available, via our cookie preferences link.
  • Essential — security, load balancing, basic functionality.
  • Analytics — aggregated traffic stats (e.g., page views, device types). We do not use analytics to identify you personally.
  • Affiliate tags — partners may set cookies to record that you came from Cancunity so they can attribute any booking/purchase.

Advertising & Google AdSense

We plan to display advertising on Cancunity using Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and/or device identifiers to serve ads based on a user’s visits to this and/or other websites.
  • Google’s advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting your Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ uses of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
  • We may enable features such as Google signals or remarketing to better understand aggregate audience behavior and show more relevant ads. These rely on Google cookies and/or device identifiers.
  • For visitors in the EEA/UK: we request consent for non-essential cookies via a consent banner. If you do not consent, we instruct Google to serve a limited (non-personalized) ad experience.

Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — running a safe, useful site; analytics; preventing abuse; affiliate attribution.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where required for non-essential cookies/marketing.
  • Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) — responding to lawful requests and record-keeping requirements.

When We Share Information

  • Service providers — e.g., hosting, security, analytics, email; bound by confidentiality and data-processing terms.
  • Affiliate/booking partners — when you click their links; they may process your data under their own privacy policies.
  • Legal & safety — to comply with law, protect rights, or investigate abuse.
  • Business transfers — in case of merger, acquisition, or asset sale, consistent with this Policy.

We do not sell personal information for money. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above, to comply with law, or to resolve disputes. Emails and support messages are typically kept for up to 24 months unless longer retention is required.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, access controls, reputable hosting) to protect personal information. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure.
